Abstract

Question and purpose: Among the growing environmental concerns, this study was conducted with the aim of evaluating energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions in cement factories. Specifically, it compares Ecosem International Factory and Larestan Cement Factory to identify innovative practices and improvement areas in the LEED framework. The main question revolves around which strategy will effectively increase sustainability in cement production a comparative research method is used, which facilitates a comprehensive analysis of energy consumption, emissions, operational practices, waste reduction, economic aspects, stakeholder perceptions and environmental impacts of factories. Quantitative data, including energy bills and emissions reports, complement qualitative insights from interviews with plant personnel and community members. Statistical analysis and thematic analysis are used to decipher the findings Conclusion and analysis: Using a comparative analysis, this study evaluates two cement factories with different practices. Ecosem International Factory's multi-faceted approach for energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions has been placed alongside Larestan Cement Factory's methods. Quantitative measurements assess differences, successes and challenges in their energy and emission profiles and ultimately provide actionable recommendations. Ecosem International Factory is emerging as a pioneer in energy efficiency and has innovative practices aligned with LEED principles. These include advanced production techniques, carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology, use of renewable energies, alternative fuels, waste heat recovery and comprehensive monitoring. On the other hand, the efforts of Larestan Cement Factory seem less comprehensive and need a fundamental revision to align with sustainability goals. This study emphasizes the need for transformative initiatives in cement production, within the framework of the LEED model, to address environmental challenges and meet sustainability requirements. These findings emphasize the pivotal role of cement plants in adopting forward-looking practices to combat energy inefficiency and reduce emissions Ecosm International is distinguished by its pioneering initiatives in energy efficiency that encompass a wide range of strategies and cutting-edge technologies
