The built environments in each region have unique features that reflect the specific culture of that region because environments are formed based on people's mental patterns and these mental patterns are created in people's minds according to their culture. Therefore, to study the relationship between culture and architecture, it is necessary to research the mental images of people that affect the built environment and examine the cultural components and how they relate to the mental image. The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between culture and mental images created in people's minds and their impact on the formation of built environments. Therefore, the present article is a kind of basic research and qualitative in nature, and in a descriptive-analytical method, using documentary and library studies with the aim of forming clear mental images in people's minds based on cultural components extracted from Amos Rapaport's perspective tries to connect the two concepts of culture and mental image; Demonstrate their effectiveness, interrelationship and important role in built environments. Also, after extracting the components from Rapaport perspective, for each of the components, according to their classification, two significant examples of Iranian architecture were selected and analyzed in the form of tables. The results show that culture not only affects the mental images created in people's minds, but also the examples provided for cultural components showed that lifestyle (environment-behavior interactions), social relationships (Due to culture and mental patterns), customs (as a result of repetition of behaviors) and beliefs (created over time) can be part of the physical and perceptual-psychological factors of mental images and individuals and people shape their environments based on these mental images. Therefore, mental images formed in people's minds affect the formation of environments.
